Bouncin’ around the Buckeye State!

Bouncin’ around the Buckeye State!

There is a little number that Glenda kept singing over and over as we left Toledo. It goes something like this: “What’s round on the ends and high in the middle? It’s O-Hi-O!” My 9-year-old brother, in his infinite wisdom, started singing, “round on the ends and high in the middle, it’s SNOW-Hi-O.” Keep going...

Holy Toledo! We’ve reached Snow-i-oh!

We crossed into Ohio at dawn on Monday. More of the winter wilderness awaited us there. Southbound on I-75, the Glass City, Toledo was our first major point of interest. Keep going...

“Drive thru” Detroit — Motor City, Michigan!

“It’s amazing how close to Canada we are,” I said to Mom as we prepared to cross the bridge into Mackinaw City on I-75. This is the port for the Michigan mainland, which is proud to support a completely different culture than the Upper Peninsula. Keep going...

We hit the snow jackpot in Houghton, MI!

Hello, faithful readers, if there are any of you still remaining. Sorry I’ve been MIA for the past few weeks, but things got kinda crazy for the Rehnquist clan as of late. You see, George came down with a nasty case of food poisoning and we ended up staying in Indiana much longer than we anticipated. He was sick for about 10 days and even spent two nights in a hospital in Fort Wayne. Keep going...

Happy New Year from Fort Wayne!

5 Jan

Happy New Year! Sorry, I have not written in a while, but unlike most high school kids in the country right now, I’ve been catching up on homework. Things have calmed down a bit with my family since last week, but we never actually discussed anything of substance to sort things out. All of the New Years Eve festivities got in the way. Keep going...

South Bend’s claim to fame? NOTRE DAME!

We traveled to South Bend located at the north part of Indiana and not far at all from Chicago. I was hoping George would change his mind and head back there for a couple days, but we stayed and checked things out in South Bend until we were ready to go Michigan. Keep going...

The Young and the Rehnquists: A new Indiana-based soap opera

We got up early in the morning so we could say our goodbyes and get driving. The two children didn’t bother to wake up, so I guess the manners thing went out the window as well for Hoosiers. I didn’t say a word when leaving except for a very light “thank you.” I tried to give them the indication that I wanted to leave quickly by walking away slightly after every word he said, but he picked up on nothing.
